Prioritize the use of sealed boxes made of PP (polypropylene) or PE (polyethylene), which are suitable for short-term storage of non-fat-soluble compounds (such as inorganic salt solutions) and must comply with the GB 4806.7-2023 standard.
Avoid using containers containing PVC or recycled plastics, whose plasticizers (such as phthalates) may be dissolved due to contact with fat-soluble compounds (such as ketones and esters).
Non-plastic containers
Glass/ceramic containers: suitable for storing strong acids, strong bases or high-temperature sensitive compounds (such as volatile organic compounds).
Stainless steel tanks: used for compounds that require long-term oxidation or corrosion protection (such as metal catalysts).
Low temperature storage: Compounds that need to inhibit chemical reactions (such as enzyme preparations and photosensitive materials) should be stored in an environment of -20℃ to 4℃, wrapped in aluminum foil bags and frozen.
High temperature protection: High temperature resistant compounds (such as silica gel desiccant) can be sealed in PP containers and stored at room temperature.
Photosensitive compounds (such as silver nitrate) need to be wrapped in brown glass bottles or aluminum foil, and filled with inert gas (such as nitrogen) to isolate oxygen.
Volatile compounds (such as chloroform) need to use screw-capped containers with silicone pads, which should be sealed and stored in a cool and ventilated place.
Repackaging into small containers as needed to avoid repeated opening to cause oxidation or contamination.
Fat-soluble compounds are prohibited from direct contact with plastic wrap, and should be covered with glassware + aluminum foil instead.
Labeling
Clearly label the compound name, concentration, and storage date. High-risk substances require additional safety warnings (such as "flammable" and "corrosive").
Plastic containers containing benzopyrene or bisphenol A cannot be used to store food-grade compounds.
Microwave heating of plastic containers may cause the release of plasticizers, so glass containers must be used instead.
Check the container for deformation and leakage every month, and replace aging or worn packaging in time.
